In this week, we will ask to download and install Fusion 360 software Autodesk before the lesson.
Fusion 360 software Autodesk is a power All-In-1 tool that connects the entire product development process comprising design, engineering, electronics, and manufacturing into one cloud-based platform. We use Fusion 360 software Autodesk to conduct CADD.
Before we get started, let us explain to you what is CADD.
CADD also known as Computer-aided drafting and design. It is use to draw and design physical components or to layout processes. With CADD, shapes and lines can be drawn easily and quickly, content can be easily copied, edited, saved and shared. CADD software also allows accurate calculation of dimensions and more advanced software can even accurately estimate the kinds and amount of materials used or the length of manufacturing time, which facilitates budget planning.
It is hence beneficial for a product design to know how to use a CADD software.
Let's begin our activity!

Activity 1
In first activity, we were asked to draw a keychain🔑.
Below are some brief steps to draw a keychain, you might take a look of the step below and try to draw your own keychain!
Reminder : before starting remember to select TOP VIEW
|
1.Sketch function |
sketch a rectangular
start on the origin. |
|
2.Sketch
fillet |
round out the
adjacent side and the fillet curve will appear. |
|
3.Create Extrude |
create a
3D solid from an object that encloses an area (set the thickness for the keychain) |
|
4.Extrude
cutting |
create
a hole in our keychains by selecting sketch 2-point circle |
|
5.Sketch text
tool |
add in lettering
and change font and size if required. |

Activity 2
In second activity, we were asked to sketch constraints📐. Constraints are design limitations.
During this activity, we learn new function from Fusion 360 software Autodesk. Below are the function that we leaned in this activity :
|
1. Veritcal/Horizontal
Constraint function |
It is used to
ensure a line is horizontally or vertically from the centre of an object. |
|
2. Concident
Function |
It is used to
to connect the centre of an object on to a line. |
|
3. Tangent
Function |
It is used to
ensure the circles are tangent to the line. |
|
4. Mirror
Function |
It is used to
replicate a side of an object identically on the other side of the object. |
|
5. Trim Tool |
It is used to
cut off unwanted portions of the drawing. |
|
6. Extrude
Function |
It is to give
a flat drawing a diameter. |

Activity 3 (synchronous tutorial)
In third activity, we were asked to design and draw the various part that can be put together to form a photo frame🖼 for a 4R photograph. After the discussion among our team, we came up with these dimensions for the parts of the photo frame:
Back white acrylic sheet,192x242x2.5mm
Transparent acrylic sheet, 102x152x2mm
Middle white acrylic sheet, 192x242x3mm
Front white acrylic sheet, 192x242x3mm

Reflection:
During the lesson, we learnt how to operate and use Fusion 360, a modelling app. We learnt, through videos and other materials, how to create a keyring on the app. Some of us had troubles due to certain misunderstandings or wrong clicks but were able to resolve them. Overall, the process of learning how to use Fusion 360 was smooth and we are now able to operate it and solve our own issues without aid. We were then tasked to create a photo frame within our groups. This meant that we had to figure out the dimensions of the parts, what parts we needed to make and allocation of parts. This went smoothly as well as we were able to communicate within the group which part we could do and solve any struggles that we may have faced, such as trying to find the right color and materials for the parts. We were able to hone our communication skills as a group, yet pick up a new skill which is the use of Fusion 360.
